Contraception has come a long way past the pill — though the pill still suits many people well. Options now include long-acting reversible contraceptives (implants and IUDs), injections, vaginal rings and barrier methods, each with different effectiveness, side effects and convenience trade-offs.
Your GP will talk through your health history, lifestyle and plans, and help you weigh the options. Long-acting methods are the most effective and last three to ten years depending on the type, but they’re not right for everyone — the decision is yours, made with clear information.
We prescribe and review contraception, provide contraceptive injections, insert and remove contraceptive implants, and refer for IUD insertion. We also provide emergency contraception advice and sexual health checks. Female GPs, including Dr Geetha Mohan and Dr. Madhu Rao are available on request.

Frequently asked questions
Which contraceptive is most effective?
Long-acting reversible contraceptives — implants and IUDs — are the most effective, at over 99%. Effectiveness is only one factor though; your GP will help you weigh convenience, side effects and your own preferences.
Can I see a female doctor?
Yes. Tell reception when you book and they’ll arrange an appointment with a female GP. Dr Geetha Mohan and Dr. Madhu Rao has a dedicated focus in women’s and family health.
Is my consultation confidential?
Yes, including for young people. What you discuss with your doctor stays between you and the practice, within the limits of the law.
Do you provide emergency contraception?
We provide advice and prescriptions where appropriate. Emergency contraception is most effective the sooner it’s taken, so book a same-day appointment or speak to a pharmacist promptly.
