Men’s Health
Men see doctors less and die younger. One unhurried check-up a year shifts those odds. No lectures — just a proper look under the bonnet.
- Preventive Care
Most of what shortens men's lives is preventable
Heart disease, type 2 diabetes, bowel cancer, melanoma — the big risks to Australian men develop quietly for years before symptoms appear. A regular health check finds them at the stage where treatment is simple: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight, skin and family-history screening, adjusted for your age.
From 50 (earlier with a family history), it’s worth a conversation about prostate checks and bowel screening — the national bowel program mails free test kits from age 45, and most of them sit in drawers. We’ll also ask about the things men mention last: mood, stress, sleep, alcohol, and sexual function. All of them are health issues, and all of them are treatable.
You don’t need a crisis to book. Come in once a year, or start with a single appointment about the thing you’ve been putting off. What you discuss stays between you and your doctor.

- Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
How often should men have a check-up?
A yearly review is a sensible rhythm for most men over 40, and every couple of years before that. If you have a family history of heart disease or cancer, start earlier — your GP will set the schedule.
Do I need a prostate check?
From age 50 — or 45 with a family history — have a conversation with your GP about PSA testing. It’s a discussion about your individual risk and preferences, not an automatic test.
Can I talk to my GP about erectile dysfunction?
Yes, and you should — it’s common, very treatable, and sometimes an early sign of heart or vascular disease. Your GP has heard it all before.
What about the bowel screening kit I got in the mail?
Do it. The free national program kit detects bowel cancer early, when over 90% of cases are treatable. If you’ve lost yours, your GP can arrange a replacement.
