Many procedures that once meant a specialist referral and a long wait can be done safely in general practice. We perform punch and shave biopsies, excision of moles and skin lesions, removal of skin tags and small cysts, wound repair and suturing, cryotherapy for warts and sun spots, and ingrown toenail procedures.
Everything happens under local anaesthetic in our treatment room. Most procedures take 15 to 45 minutes, and anything removed for a medical reason is sent to pathology. Your doctor explains the result and any next steps — suture removal and results review are usually included in the procedure fee.
Procedure fees are private and can’t be claimed through Medicare; biopsies start from $150, simple excisions from $180 and larger flap excisions from $250. If a lesion needs more specialised care, we’ll refer you promptly and share the full history with the specialist.

- How to prepare
- Eat normally beforehand — local anaesthetic doesn’t require fasting.
- Tell us if you take blood thinners or have ever reacted to anaesthetic.
- Wear clothing that gives easy access to the procedure site.
- Plan your day so you can keep the dressing dry afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Will the procedure hurt?
You’ll feel the brief sting of the local anaesthetic injection, then pressure but no pain during the procedure. Mild soreness afterwards usually settles with paracetamol.
Are minor procedures covered by Medicare?
Procedure fees at our practice are private — biopsies from $150, simple excisions from $180, flap excisions from $250. Suture removal and results are usually included. Reception can quote your specific procedure.
Will there be a scar?
Any cut to the skin leaves some mark. Your doctor uses techniques that minimise scarring and will tell you honestly what to expect for your procedure and skin type.
What happens to what's removed?
Anything removed for a medical reason goes to pathology for testing. Your doctor reviews the report and contacts you with results and any follow-up needed.
